A survivor from Kolkata was provided with an inhaler to prevent a panic attack but was raped again
The police informed a court that the accused, who is alleged to have raped a law student in Kolkata, purchased an inhaler for her not to ease her suffering but to revive her from a panic attack and extend the assault. The chief public prosecutor submitted this as the Kolkata court prolonged the police custody of the three accused until July 8.

At the hearing, public prosecutor Sourin Ghosal stated that when the 24-year-old law student experienced a panic attack, she was given an inhaler not out of concern for her well-being, but so that she could recover and be raped again.
Four individuals, among them the main suspect Monojit Mishra (who had links to the Trinamool Congress’s student wing) and two college students,
They were quite desperate. As the woman lost her breath, she was given the inhaler—not to bring her back to life, but to make sure she came to her senses so that they could sexually attack her,” the public prosecutor stated.
The defence counsel, however, refuted this claim, insisting that the accused’s purchase of an inhaler for her was motivated by humanitarian concerns due to her breathing discomfort.
WHAT RAPE SURVIVOR TOLD POLICE
The student from South Calcutta Law College had noted in her complaint that she had implored the accused to bring her to a hospital after she suffered from shortness of breath and a panic attack.
Although I requested their assistance in getting to the hospital, they did not help me. She stated that they had secured the college’s main entrance, leaving the guard unable to assist.
Monoijit Mishra, the principal accused, instructed the other students to obtain an inhaler. According to CCTV footage, one of the individuals charged departed from the college grounds to purchase an inhaler from a nearby pharmacy.
After the inhaler was administered to the survivor and she calmed down, the accused took her to the guard room and resumed the assault.
Monojit has insisted that the act was consensual and there was no sexual assault.
Nevertheless, a medico-legal examination showed that Monojit had scratch marks on his body, indicating signs of resistance from the survivor.
