Pak denounces US attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities: Tehran has the right to defend itself

One day after praising U.S. President Donald Trump for his “decisive diplomatic intervention” during the India-Pakistan confrontation last month and endorsing him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, Pakistan condemned Washington’s military operations against Iranian nuclear facilities on Sunday.

To undermine Tehran’s nuclear capabilities, the United States conducted strikes early Sunday on three critical Iranian locations—Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan—targeting facilities associated with Iran’s nuclear program.

Pakistan’s foreign affairs ministry stated in a post on its official X account that the US strikes “violate all norms of international law” and emphasized that Iran has the right to defend itself as per the United Nations Charter.

We are seriously worried about the potential for tensions in the region to escalate further. The extraordinary intensification of tension and violence, due to the continuing aggression against Iran, is profoundly unsettling. The post stated, “Any further escalation of tensions will have severe repercussions for the region and beyond.”

It added, “We reiterate that these attacks contravene all standards of international law and that Iran has a legitimate right to self-defense under the UN Charter.”

Pakistan, sharing a 900-km border with Iran, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, emphasizing that diplomacy is the only sustainable path to peace, not military escalation. It noted, “The only viable way to resolve the crises in the region is through dialogue and diplomacy, by the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.”

On Saturday, the Pakistani government announced its decision to formally nominate Mr. Trump for next year’s Nobel Peace Prize. The assertion was made a few days after an invitation to the White House for lunch with Donald Trump was extended to Asim Munir, chief of the Pakistan Army.

It had stated, “The Government of Pakistan has opted to formally propose President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, acknowledging his crucial diplomatic involvement and leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis.”
