Shashi Tharoor Crucial Role in the Center’s Diplomatic Outreach Following Operation Sindoor

An all-party team led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who has been under fire from his party for applauding the Center following Operation Sindoor, will travel the world with India’s “strong message” of zero-tolerance against terrorism.

Mr. Tharoor and six other Members of Parliament (MPs), including two from the opposition and four from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), were appointed by the government on Saturday to conduct the significant outreach effort. This comes after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last month, which sparked Operation Sindoor, the Indian offensive against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

When things count most, Bharat is united. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, posted on X.

He stated that India’s “shared message of zero-tolerance to terrorism” will be carried by the seven all-party delegations that will shortly go to important partner countries.

“A powerful reflection of national unity above politics, beyond differences,” added Rijiju.

Besides Mr Tharoor, the Centre also chose the Opposition leaders Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule.

The other four delegations will be led by members of the ruling NDA, including Baijayant Panda and Ravi Shankar Prasad of the BJP, Sanjay Kumar Jha of the JDU, and Shrikant Shinde of the Shiv Sena.

The delegates will meet with UN Security Council members, according to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.

According to a statement released by the Ministry on Saturday, these delegations will “project India’s national consensus” and “resolute approach to combating terrorism in all forms and manifestations.”

It stated that they will spread the nation’s resolute message of zero tolerance for terrorism around the world.

The diplomatic exercise will also involve BJP heavyweights Nishikant Dubey, Bansuri Swaraj, Anurag Thakur, MJ Akbar, Samik Bhattacharya, Daggubati Purandeswari, and SS Ahluwalia, according to sources.

The delegations are also anticipated to include Asaduddin Owaisi, the head of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Salman Khurshid and Manish Tewari of the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena (UBT), Sasmit Patra of the Biju Janata Dal, Vikramjeet Sawhney of the Aam Aadmi Party, and John Brittas, a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

These leaders will probably spend ten days traveling to other nations.
