Israel Threatens Civilian Targets in Tehran After Iranian Missile Strikes

Israel has warned that it may target civilian areas in Tehran in retaliation for recent missile strikes by Iran, escalating tensions between the two longtime adversaries. The warning came as both nations accused each other of attacking civilian areas during the latest surge in violence across the Middle East.

In a strongly worded statement, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant referred to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as an “arrogant dictator,” and accused him of orchestrating attacks against Israel’s civilian population. “The arrogant dictator from Tehran has become a cowardly murderer who fires targeted shots at the civilian home front in Israel to deter the IDF from continuing the attack that is collapsing its capabilities,” Gallant said. “The residents of Tehran will pay the price, and soon.”

Earlier, Khamenei had declared that Iran would deliver “heavy blows to the evil Zionist enemy,” using terminology often employed by Iranian leaders to describe Israel.

The intensifying rhetoric and military actions from both sides risk deepening an already volatile situation in the region, which has drawn international concern over its humanitarian and economic impacts. According to initial reports, Iran has suffered approximately 230 casualties, while 18 people have died in Israel since the latest round of attacks began.

Iran launched missile strikes on multiple Israeli cities overnight, which Khamenei described as “heavy blows to Zionists.” He also posted a video showing missile strikes on Israeli territory, adding, “Life will definitely become bitter for the Zionists.”

Footage from Tel Aviv showed significant structural damage to buildings following warnings issued by the Israeli military for civilians to seek shelter. Explosions were also reported in Jerusalem, with Iranian missiles lighting up the night sky.
