Starlink Cleared to Launch Satellite Internet Services in India
Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, has received a crucial license from India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), bringing it closer to launching commercial operations in the country. This approval marks a significant milestone after nearly two years of regulatory delays, primarily due to national security concerns. Starlink becomes the third company to obtain such a license in India, following Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s satellite arm

The license allows Starlink to offer high-speed satellite internet services, particularly targeting underserved rural and remote areas where traditional broadband infrastructure is limited. However, before commencing operations, Starlink must secure trial spectrum, undergo security testing, and obtain additional approvals from India’s space regulator
This development positions Starlink to potentially revolutionize internet connectivity in India, aligning with the government’s efforts to bridge the digital divide and enhance access to information and services across the nation.
